Welcome to the Official Comedy Club Blogger for Suffern High School

This is the very first post on the Official Comedy Club Blogger for Suffern High School, where you can get the latest news, events, games, topics, scenes, & etc. for the Comedy Club. The purpose of this is so the people of Comedy Club can let the current president/vice president know what they think of the club, what they want more of, and especially what they think is wrong with the Comedy Club. Originally my idea was to create a web site for the Comedy Club, but I figured it would be too high end and take too much time, but the president of the 2007-2008 fiscal year Andrew brought it to my attention that making a Blogger would be much easier. Therefore this has come into existence....

Comedy Writing Secrets by Melvin Helitzer:
Comedy Writing Secrets by Melvin Helitzer is a book synonymous throughout college comedy courses throughout the United States. In this book there is a lot of information that can help the person who thinks they aren't funny at all turn themselves into a comedy writing genius. The fact of the matter is that everyone has the potential to be funny, but they just need to find that potential and use it. This book is the very best way to find such a thing because if you can write comedy then all you need to do is go up there and perform it... That, on the other hand, is a totally different story.

NEWS!!! : Welcome to Surreality... Hold your gears in place, the year end event is near.

- Funding - We need a significant amount of funds in order to go to a Comedy Club Event.
- Fun - A bake sale is nice, but it's not Comedy... Unless you tickle the customer, I don't think they'll be buying anything then... A year end show is very fun and allows the members to express themselves and just plain and simple go all out with their best material
- Preparation - I'll have it taken care of.... I'll hand out fliers make posters and give hype for the show
- Ultimate Comedy Exhibition - Like "Last Comic Standing" only everyone in the school is invited... They will all go head to head and ultimately we will show the finals at the show...

More News

Now that the whole Crash Course in Comedy thing on Comedy Central's website is over, I decided to become more motile in my approach to this whole learning comedy stuff. I was looking on the net and found a great video oriented thing on Expert's Exchange. Check it out, it's located on the right side of the page under the links section.

About The Expert:

Les McGehee is a working award winning comedian and improvisation pioneer who has entertained and trained millions of happier people throughout the US and the world for 20 years. He has toured through countries and performed thousands of shows. Les and his comedy companies have been featured on ABC WB Fox Family and PBS. His writing credits include a book and many successful scripts and published articles. He has played with famous and not so famous stars of stage and screen including appearances with cast members of Saturday Night Live, Whose Line is it Anyway, MadTV, The Simpsons and others. He has provided improv training to Fortune 500 companies including ATT, IBM and Dell as well as government agencies and prestigious graduate schools of business. He was a founder of the Comedy League of America, Comedy Sportz, National Comedy Theatre, IMPROV MBA and other companies and toured with the National Comedy Theatre's “Tour for the Troops” in 2004 and 2005.

Description:

Summary: “So what is the deal with airports? You walk in and everybody is in such a hurry. Its like the time your dad left without you at the gas station and made you chase the car down the road while your brother and sister are in the back sit giving you the finger...what?...why is everyone leaving?...sir, please don't throw your beer at me...why is my microphone off?...” Stand up comedy and improv comedy is a difficult career and making it is no laughing matter. It takes work, practice, persistence, and wit sharper than Oscar Wilde's pen. It is important for a comedian to be relevant, creative, intelligent, and accessible, even when objects are being thrown at him or her from an angry customer in the audience.

In this free video series, let comedian Les McGehee school you in the art of humor as he teaches you how to do improv comedy. Learn different improvisational techniques and games, how to apply those techniques to different situations, and how to use the art of improv comedy to make people laugh. This step by step comedy lesson is sure to make you laugh and get you closer to your dream of telling jokes for a living.
